In the afternoon drive to the majestic El Escorial, built by King Phillip II, with its extraordinary complex of courtyards crowned by four majestic towers and the basilica with its impressive dome. Then see the nearby Valley of the Fallen, an impressive memorial to Spain's war heroes.
You'll drive southward through the land of Don Quixote, "The man from la Mancha." On the way observe vast vineyards on both sides. Cross through the natural border of "Despenaperros" and arrive in "Andalucia," a region with an enormous heritage from a spendid past. In Cordoba tour its "Mosque" and ease your mind and spirit while strolling along the narrow, winding streets of the Jewish Quarter.
Visit Seville's cathedral (Spain's largest) with its Giraldal Tower. See the Alcazar, a Moorish palace and royal residence, and El Barrio de Santa Cruz in the once-thriving Jewish Quarter, preserved with great care. See the pools and Fountains of Maria Lusia Park. Drive to the Plaza de Espana, the Gold Tower on the Guadlaquiver River, and the fine Baroque building. Stroll through the narrow lanes of the charming Santa Cruz Quarter.
Take a quided tour of Lisbon. Lisbon was once the center of a vast empire and still reveals an extraordinary cosmopolitan atmosphere. We will see the Belem Tower, the monastery of St. Jeroimo, the medieval Alfama quarter, and the Basilica of St. Anthony.
